A healthy cooking experience begins with an array of fresh, wholesome ingredients. In our quest to discover what they are, we often visit the local farmer’s market. It is also a great place to find organic vegetables. It’s a nice, friendly atmosphere that makes us feel at home.
Farmer’s markets offer healthy cooking classes and vegetable and fruit buying for the whole family. Our kids love to get these classes because they help them to identify the things they should eat and avoid. What we didn’t realize was the impact it would have on our children’s food. Even though they are now old enough to decide what they want to eat for lunch, they don’t like to eat many raw vegetables, for the most part.
Cooking Healthy Meals
We want them to have a new look, and we have been showing them what they need to be healthy. We wanted them to learn how to cook healthier meals without sacrificing taste. They love vegetables and fruits, but it is difficult to bring them over to the farmer’s market to pick them up. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can have a nice home-cooked meal on our table at any time.
Now that our kids are old enough to join in the healthy cooking classes, we aren’t afraid to teach them how to make these healthier choices. The parents’ group has been split into two categories: boys and girls. We will be teaching the kids about meat, fish, poultry, and eggs. We have recipes for fish, chicken, and turkey, and egg dishes.
Healthy Cooking Tips
Everyone is invited to a healthy cooking class to share what they want to learn about healthy cooking. Since it is a special night, we let them choose the preparation that fits their tastes best. We all have different ways of cooking, and so it is easy to be a team in the kitchen. Everyone likes to fish and chicken, so we have some simple, tasty recipes for these. These will help to build the foundation for the other foods we will be sharing with our group. When preparing the fish, our recipe includes using brown rice as a base and marinating the fish in a citrus marinade. All of the veggies are tossed in the marinade, and then the rice is folded in with the seafood, making the best rice and fish combination.
Our recipe for broiled chicken has been very popular, and our kids love the flavors they get from the zest in the lemon. There are lots of fresh ginger and garlic in this recipe, and it is delicious. Using a seasoned breadcrumb and pan-fried in olive oil, it is the perfect warm meal.
Healthy Cooking Recipes
Our second recipe is Lemon Cheesecake. This recipe has a subtle taste of balsamic, and the fresh fruits have great flavor from the citrus zest. For the crust, we used a mixture of flaxseed meal and water to make it look like a crumb and to add texture to the dish.
Our group, like the whole healthy cooking class, is meant to be fun, as long as we eat healthily. This meal was perfect for the dinner we were going to prepare that night. A quick oven-baked apple pie with a creamy apple glaze, our kids loved this with raisins, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
We brought some roasted turkey to the healthy cooking class. It is traditional to serve the turkey with brown rice soup, but we used brown rice with cranberry sauce. We seasoned it with salt and pepper, and it was delicious.
Our group, like the healthy cooking class is about healthy eating and not about substituting one thing for another. There is no meat here, no starch, no dessert. It is all healthy, and you will see our results in our next healthy cooking class.
One thing we learned in our healthy cooking classes is that we should incorporate all the flavors we have tasted in our own kitchens into our cooking. And for those who come, be sure to bring something you can’t wait to put on your plate. It is all about inclusion.
